The Junior Racing and Cruisers programs staff brings many years of coaching and racing experience to Elk Mountain. The Elk Mountain Junior Racing program has produced racers who have excelled at Eastern Regional races. The Cruisers Program has produced many excellent young skiers; most usually continue through to the Junior Racing Program.

Elk Mountain's Junior Racing is geared to young skiers age 9 to 19 who can comfortably ski the entire mountain including all black diamond trails. All participants will be expected to take part in all aspects of race training. Offered as a full season program, this program allows the participants to ski/train with the same coaches over the duration of the program. This format assures continuity and allows progress to be monitored closely. Training is available at both the recreational and competitive levels. The program participants have additional gate training available on scheduled nights. In addition to skiing skills development, agility drills, racing techniques and course tactics, participants will learn ski tuning, equipment maintenance and take part in various skiing activities. Video sessions with critique by the coaches will be integrated into the training. 8:30 a.m. start; 12/31/23 will be a half day.

The Elk Mountain Cruisers Program is geared to skiers age 8-12 who can comfortably ski blue square trails can enjoy a challenging ski experience, improve their technique and build self-confidence. Participants are required to use ski poles for this program. Children must be able to get on and ride all of the Elk Mountain chair lifts with other children. Three and a half hours of supervised skiing and coaching/instruction daily promotes learning in an exciting and unhurried environment. Skiing with the same instructors the entire season on a variety of trails allows children to develop their skiing skills while making new friends who share their same interest in skiing. (9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.)

Elk Mountain's Freestyle Program will be offered through the ski school. The program is for participants age 8-19 who can comfortably ski advanced intermediate terrain. The set of courses will include ski improvement, mogul skiing, park tricks, bumps, jumps and video training. The program is being offered Saturdays and Sundays from January 6th through February 25th, 2024 excluding February 17th and 18th.

Mountain Rangers

The Elk Mountain Rangers Ski School is a season long prorgam sold with a limit on participants. Offered Saturday & Sunday (1/6 through 2/25/24 non holidays) for 3 hours per day with a prompt 9:30 a.m. start. Ek Mountain Rangers Ski School is a program for all skiers age 6 to 12. Children who are beginners, skiing green circle or blue square trails, or even those comfortably skiing all trails can enjoy 3 hours of professional ski instruction with safe and structured lesson plans to improve their technique and build self-confidence. Children will be assigned to specific groups according to their individual levels. This program is designed to be a Learn to Ski Better Program and is a recommended first step prior to pursuing junior race program (aka Cruisers). All programs may start each day at the bottom of the beginner slope regardless of level.
